Africa Vaccine Initiative Projects

Empower communities and eliminate suffering by joining forces with Knock Out Rabies. Together, we aim to put an end to preventable rabies deaths. Collaborate with governments and NGOs to support a sustainable model. Let's work together to achieve Zero by Thirty.

Rabies Vaccination Campaigns in the African Bush

So far, we have organized three vaccine clinics in remote villages in Malawi and Zambia. In 2017, we successfully vaccinated 550 dogs in these areas. Building on our progress, in 2018 we set our sights even higher and launched our inaugural mass vaccination campaign in Mzuzu, a bustling city in northern Malawi. Over the course of five days, we administered vaccines to an impressive 12,000 dogs. Continuing our efforts in 2019, we extended the reach of our vaccination campaign to the northern region of Malawi and safeguarded an additional 3,000 dogs in Mzimba township, located just an hour south of Mzuzu. Our ultimate mission is to raise awareness and secure the necessary funding to sustain these large-scale vaccine clinics across Malawi. By collaborating with the Malawian government and Rabies Free Africa, we are actively working towards establishing a sustainable and cost-effective model that will enable us to eradicate rabies by 2030. As this process evolves, we remain committed to returning to Malawi to ensure ongoing vaccinations in the North.

Over five days, we administered vaccines to 12,000 dogs. Continuing our efforts in 2019, we extended the reach of our vaccination campaign to the northern region of Malawi. We safeguarded an additional 6,000 dogs in Mzimba township, just an hour south of Mzuzu. We refocused in the fall of 2020 and have been holding two vaccine clinics yearly—one in March and one in September. We aim to raise awareness and secure funding to sustain these large-scale vaccine clinics across Malawi. Medical Supplies

In the regions we focus on, there is a scarcity of medical supplies. Each year, we organize the collection of donations to be delivered to the remote veterinary clinics. Presently, we provide essential supplies to the veterinary clinic located in the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, which is backed by Conservation South Luangwa. We truly appreciate all donations, as we are able to put even the most basic supplies to good use. However, transporting these donations is always a challenge due to the high costs involved. Therefore, any monetary contributions are also greatly appreciated.

Spay and Neuter Field Clinics

We are dedicated to establishing pop-up veterinary field clinics aimed at spaying and neutering dogs in both rural villages and remote bush areas. These regions lack sufficient medical services for both humans and their rapidly increasing animal population. By implementing spay and neuter programs, we can effectively manage the dog population, ultimately preventing the government's outdated and ineffective practice of culling. Moving forward, we have plans to involve veterinary students from various universities in these clinics, offering them an invaluable educational experience. Not only will these clinics provide a much-needed service for animals and village residents, but they will also contribute to the global perspective of aspiring veterinary students.
